Our Travel Experts, Wandering Staff, and Ambling Associates

Sam Menefee has studied formally and informally at some of the world’s great universities. A holder of degrees from Yale, Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, and the University of Virginia, he has researched as a Cosmos Fellow at the University of Edinburgh’s School of Scottish Studies and lectured in places as diverse as World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden, and the University of Cape Town. Trained in anthropology, law, and international relations, Sam is never so happy as when he’s hiking the Roman Wall, john-boating down the Yukon, or hunting in Africa. He published his first travel article (about the archaic Indian complex at Poverty Point) at age ten, and since then has covered everything from climbing the Matterhorn to living in London, from the World Scout Jamboree in Greece to the wilds of the Orkneys and the jungles of Yucatan. He has visited some 42 countries and hopes to hit a few more before he’s too banged up to travel

Mary Menefee has graduate degrees from Regent University in business and divinity and believes in a balance of work and pray (sorry, “play”). Her love of travel has been constant, having driven 18-wheelers coast-to-coast and visiting 48 of the 50 states. She has also taken advantage of international opportunities when they have arisen, having visited some 21 countries to date – language trips to Germany and Spain in high school, a Rotary Fellowship to India and Nepal, missions work in Columbia and Mexico and more recently, journeys to England, Scotland, Sweden, Denmark, Israel, Egypt, Italy, and Turkey. She’s ridden horseback in the wilds of Columbia, circled Iceland on the Ring Road, ballooned in Cappadocia, climbed Scottish Munros, and cross-country skied at Ashcroft. Mary wishes to positively impact the lives of those in third world countries.
